Riley skipped merrily to the bulletin board hanging in the Great Hall. It had been far too long she had gone without one of her classic polls. This one was inspired one day when realizing their was quite a few gingers running around the school. And honestly, she was beginning to run out of ideas. But this was a good question, who exactly was the best soulless ginger of them all?
Riley posted the poll and like routine, placing her hands onto her hips and grinned up at it triumphantly.

Marius had been walking by the infamous Bulletin board when he caught sight of Riley Riverson. He raised an eyebrow---he still wasn't used to her new look, but he internally admitted that it suited the Hufflepuff. And, oh wow, her hair was really red.
He grinned and waved casually, noticing the newest poll posted up in front of her. "You don't ever known when to stop, do you?" He teased, stopping beside her and appraising it. His hands were shoved inside his pockets, and the Hogwarts robes was tied around his hips. The first two buttons of his shirt were undone, and his tie was loose. He had been rough-housing with some of his friends from the last DADA class.
Quickly, he voted for two people, but he was taller so Riley couldn't see whom he voted for. "That's not a bad thing," he added thoughtfully after a beat, smirking at her boyishly.

Riley stood back just a bit as a few people came by to vote, her brows arching when seeing her get a single vote which melted into a pleasantly surprised smile. There was no doubt she was quite the ginger. Bright red hair and the deepest bluish green eyes ever, mixed with a tiny smack of freckles that was more on her shoulders but a few dotted her cheeks. Riley was full ginger material, but since Loch was more popular, her bets were on her for taking the win.
With a quick glance around, she froze like a deer caught in the head lights. Marius... Was waving at her. Crap. How do you wave again? She gave him an awkward thumbs up. What the hell was that? Riley shoved her hands into her robes, suddenly feeling super self conscious. Don't know when to stop? What does that mean? She felt like her hair wasn't sitting right. She was aware of the way her knee sock was sliding a bit down her leg, or how her tie was a bit crooked. Given Marius didn't look like he was much better kept. All disheveled but in a seriously sexy way. Riley watched him, trying to appear casual as he voted, even getting on her tip toes to see but he blocked her vision. As he spoke again, her heart thumped. Loud. That smirk made her knees feel week.
"Well uh- ya know- finding you who's the best ginger is pretty much vital to human existence." What. What the fuck did she say? "I mean-" She rubbed the back of her head. Fuck. "It's... Important." She said the last bit strained, her face slowly heating till it was pink like she had gotten a sunburn.
Riley Riverson could not talk to boys if her life depended on it. Definitely not cute ones. Especially cute ones she had a crush on.

Even though he believed these sort of polls were a waste of time and had no problem saying so, Stephano still took the time to make a vote when he happened by - for 'Someone not mentioned.' His girlfriend was a metamorphagus, which meant that she could be ginger, if she wanted to. Which totally counted. Right? Yeah, it definitely counted.

Marius tried not to raise his eyebrows again. He didn't know Riverson was a stutterer. How cute. "Very," he agreed, dark eyes lighting up with amusement. That was weird. She seemed to talk to him normally enough a few weeks ago. Maybe she had a cold. She was red, for one. He instinctively wanted to feel her forehead for a hot temperature, but he reasoned that one, she was a lady, and two, he would probably get his ass kicked if he pulled any moves. He heard she was some sort of kung fu master. (Which was cool, really.)
He looked around for any of his friends, and, upon finding himself alone, decided to linger around Riverson just for the heck of it. "You think you'll make it to the top three?" He asked out of the blue, leaning against a pillar. When Farran dropped by to vote, he raised a hand to acknowledge the other boy. Knowing him, Stephano probably found a way to vote for his girlfriend.

Riley knew she was blowing it. God, she was pathetic. Why couldn't she be cool and hip with the boys? Well... Maybe she was trying too hard? Maybe if she treated Marius as if she didn't have a crush, it'd all be good? But wouldn't that get her friend zoned? Wasn't she already though? Well... It would be better than stuttering like a jackass. So she took a deep breath, calming herself and bruising herself by pulling her sock back to her knee. She straightened then, glancing towards Farran as he voted, probably for his girlfriend even though that so didn't count. But whatever.
Riley jumped a bit as Marius spoke, not expecting him to have stuck around. Be cool. Be cool. Be cool.
"Probably not." She said with a shrug. "I'm not the most popular. These poll things really are a popularity contest when it comes down to it. I just find them amusing anyway." Riley said then squinted her eyes. "Holy cow, I'm tied for first. How did that happen." She exclaimed, brows arched.

"You're not bad-looking." Marius answered honestly, shrugging towards the bulletin board. "In fact, you're rather, ah, pretty. Very blue eyes." He scratched his cheek thoughtfully and gestured to his own. "But I agree on that previous statement---this is another one of those popular things, yeah? Loch Monarch's going to win. Her prankster persona matches the red hair." He mused. His gaze flickered from Riley, to the board, and back to Riley again. "But I'd say you'll make it to the top three." He insisted.
Marius felt a bit odd. He hadn't had an intelligent conversation with a girl in a while. He was hesitant to bring out the pick-up lines, but as soon as the two of them relaxed, then it was on with the big guns. He had a reputation to maintain.

Riley blinked at him several times. Did he just... Call her pretty? Her face erupted in a blush and she decided to stay silent and carefully think over her words before she blurt something out. Usually at that point did she end up screwing something up for her. A cute boy just called her pretty. And complimented her eyes. Lord- she was in heaven. A potato like her getting recognized, praise be.
As the conversation drifted back onto Loch she gave a small laugh, just a bit soft rather than awkward, which was nice for a change. "Hmm-" Her gaze drifted back to the poll. It wasn't like there was many options, and she was tied for first. "Yeah, maybe." She agreed, flashing him a nice smile. (Thank god her braces were removed in third year).
"So uh- Gryffindor, eh? Glad to see you beat out the smart Asian Ravenclaw stereotype." She joked, her hands folded behind her back as she teetered on her heels.

Marius grinned. "Who says I'm not smart?" He challenged lazily, snickering softly at some sort of inside joke. "Well, yeah. I guess my good looks outweighted my smarts." He winked at Riley and felt more in his element. He straightened his back and leaned towards her. This. This was his area. "And that's saying something, because I'm plenty smart, sweetheart."

Riley popped a brow in challenge. Well, she didn't doubt that Marius was smart. His overall laziness tended to make you assume otherwise. She wasn't the lazy type but she wasn't some genius either. Average student, average grades, but with so much martial arts training under her belt she could be classified as a ninja. So much training made her the perceptive type, so she spotted the exact moment his mood shifted. His goal changed. Marius was flirting shamelessly with her. That wink was to die for. His tone of voice, the way he moved closer. It was all breath shortening- blush educing worthy. Oh but was it fake. This was a game and it was almost as bad as not getting noticed at all.
Riley narrowed her eyes, arching her brows and giving an expression that was saying 'seriously?' She sighed, straightening her back against the wall, cocking her head to the side to meet his large dark eyes. "Why did you have to mess it up? God- you were so cute too." She laughed, good-naturally and pushed herself off the wall. "I forgot I was speaking to flirt-master-pro. Unless we are going to start snogging it up in the nearest broom closet, lets keep this friendship platonic, sound good to you sweetheart?"

Marius tried not to show his surprise. Ooookay, then. That wasn't the usual response to his pseudoromantic efforts. His eyes narrowed thoughtfully as he appraised the Hufflepuff for a second time, reluctantly tweaking some of the data he thought he knew, but that was very quick and the next second his eyes had widened innocently in an expression of, "Who, me?"
He shrugged and smirked at her. "Whatever you say, doll." He raised both his arms to plead not guilty. He wondered what had triggered that kind of reaction. Humm, humm. Time to pull out the sage thinking mode.
"It's kind of daunting you forgot you were talking to Mr. Flirt." He pouted childishly and boyishly grinned at her, faking a mock-hurt furrow of his eyebrows. "Is my allure not that effective anymore? Curses. This is all Williams' fault."

Riley watched him with interest, folding her arms over her chest, lips curling into a smile. Maybe she shot down the flirting so quickly because that basically- never happened to her before. She was nervous, and god knows she didn't know how to flirt back to save her life. But it wasn't just that. She knew this was a sort of 'daily dosage of flirtation thing' like he had to fill some bloody quota. Riley didn't enjoy that much. Of course she fawned over boys and jumped to crushes quickly. But when she had one, it was that one alone. She believed in only putting efforts towards someone you were interested in. What was the point of flirting for sport? It was kind of douche baggy.
Plus the little names were a bit demeaning. Doll- pfft. Riley could snap his neck if she wanted to. All ka-powww chop chop. Leg sweep- Whoooooa. You know, that stuff. Where was her mind going? Oh right- she was nervous.
"Oh no no, believe me. It's alluring. You got my heart pounding, dude. But its kind of- hmmm-" She paused tapping her chin. "You kind of got this 'fuck boy' thing about you going. I don't know. I mean its funny- but being flirted with for the sake of wanting to boost your own ego? It's kinda lame, man. Just saying."

Marius' eyebrows threatened to join his hairline.
Lame? Marius Min Yeon?
(And "fuck boy"? Hmm...)
He took a small step away from Riverson. "Can't help it," he muttered, awfully reminded for a moment that she was some sort of Bruce Lee the Second. He awkwardly scratched his head and looked away, clearing his throat. His adam's apple bobbed as he swallowed and wet his chapped lips. "This is my default setting." He defended himself half-heartedly, and didn't offer anymore pleads to his innocence.
It wasn't that he was flirting just to boost his own ego. That would take a hella lot of effort that Marius couldn't be begged to dish out. After all, if he wouldn't even budge from the Gryffindor couch for the price of ten galleons (or a lapful of ice), why would he make the effort to charm every girl's panties off in a two-mile radius?
It was far from that, actually. Marius' advances were harmless and playful teasing nine point ninety-nine times out of ten. Look at Bones and Sanders, for example. Marius wasn't looking for sweeping them off their feet any time soon. Not to mention Tillman.
Marius let his hand fall back to his sides and cleared his throat. "Well, I should go." He murmured, trying for his casual, boyish smile. It wasn't everyday he was psycho-analyzed.

Anne made her way over and after acknowledging Marius and Riley she took a look at the entries.
"You know, calling someone who's being perfectly friendly a 'fuck boy' isn't exactly a winning move, Riverson. Even then, its a shallow term. There's a lot more to a desirable mate than physical attraction. If everything else is there, the attraction falls into place, I find, which rather suggests that looks aren't really all that important, correct? Marius has many qualities to recommend him." She paused a moment. "Well, other than red hair, I suppose, and that is the question at hand. Which ginger is the best? Seems a loaded question. 'Best' is a rather general superlative. Ginger is slightly better defined, but there are loopholes." She shifted to a ginger beauty with piercing blue eyes and a dazzling smile. "Not that I usually go around like this, but I do love to make a point."

Stephano, who was still hanging around in the general vicinity, smiled. He was totally justified in voting for her - not that he had doubted his justification before, but it was also nice to have a demonstration. And he did think she looked quite pretty that way. He wasn't sure if he should say so, though - would it be an insult to her true form? Dating a metamorph was complicated sometimes.
